Physical Therapy consists of reconditioning and strengthening exercises, treatments and home programs to facilitate maximum independence. Physical therapy may be recommended following a prolonged illness, after acute rehabilitation or orthopedic surgery, stroke, head injuries, falls and generalized weakness. There are also specialized programs designed for the patient with cardiac and pulmonary issues.

Occupational Therapy evaluates the patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living and then develops programs that can help restore them to their best functional level. Some occupational therapies services include: Energy conservation techniques for people with respiratory and/or cardiac impairment, medication management, environmental adaptations, adaptive equipment training and contracture management with splinting and positioning. This type of therapy also focuses on patient and caregiver education and training for feeding, dressing, bathing and hygiene.

Speech and Language Therapy services include rehabilitation following a stroke, head/neck injury or surgery when speech and/or swallowing are affected. Home plans can help by providing specialized speech and language exercises, communication alternatives, eating and swallowing strategies as well as patient and caregiver education.

Medical Social Workers offer assistance in dealing with social and emotional factors related to the client’s illness and need for care or help with long range planning or short term counseling. Medical social workers can also assist by directing you to other community resources and support.
